About us
ValaMed is a research-oriented biotech company that was established in 2007 to perform chemo-sensitivity testing on primary cancer cells. The primary goal of the company is providing and advancing evaluation methods that can assist oncologists and drug developers to determine the efficacy of cancer drugs on personalized basis. The company is located at K’m - Medical Park in Reykjavik, Iceland and is currently setting up number of research projects in collaboration with leading oncologists, surgeons and other scientists worldwide. Our aim is to incorporate chemo-sensitivity testing as a standard practice in oncology and develop the methodology further.

The project
ValaMed is a life science company that performs chemo-sensitivity testing on primary cancer samples to evaluate the feasibility of individualized chemotherapy. Prior to commencing chemotherapy, a fresh tumor sample is collected and the effects of different cytostatic drugs tested directly on the cancer cells. The purpose is to preclude drugs that are ineffective in each case with at least 90% accuracy. The concept of chemosensitivity testing in oncology is well established and its implementation is becoming more feasible with the introduction of more sensitive and accurate methods. The company has initiated collaboration with a group of oncologists, surgeons and scientist in an effort to promote and develop assays for determining the efficacy of different cancer drugs in individual bases.

Partnerships
ValaMed administrates research projects in collaboration with a number of leading oncologists, surgeons and other scientists worldwide with the aim of establishing and developing chemo-sensitivity testing on primary cancer cells. Testing for chemo-sensitivity benefits oncologists when it comes to selecting drug regimen for chemotherapy and can advance drug development and basic research in this field. This methodology allows for testing an assortment of drugs on the same tumor sample and consequently testing the same drug regimen on number of samples. The company is setting up few collaborative groups of oncologists, surgeons and scientist working with different type of cancer. One such group is already working on brain tumors and few others are being organized. ValaMed welcomes partners into this undertaking.

We are also looking for partnerships and clients in broader range of cell based research and services.
